"Hoy sale de esta capital hacia Madrid el inspirado artista D. Rafael Latorre. Alli se propone permanecer hasta las vísperas del Corpus que regresará a esta población. Todo el tiempo que esté en la Corte lo consagrará a ejecutar algunos trabajos artísticos que le han sido encargados. Entre ellos copiará de los tapices existentes en el Museo con destino a un propietario de Granada. La breve estancia de Rafael Latorre en Madrid no será seguramente infructuosa para su ingenio ni de estériles resultados para las bellas artes granadinas."

Una nueva obra regalada para El Salvador

"Con destino a la misma iglesia del Salvador ha regalado doña Francisca Pérez de Herrasti un cuadro de gran tamaño, copia de la Inmaculada de Murillo, que se conserva en el museo del Prado. La copia, que es de fidelidad extraordinaria, la ejecutó directamente del original el notable pintor granadino Rafael Latorre.

(...) Entonces se puso Latorre en contacto con los maestros (...) nacionales merced a la munificencia de don Luis Andrada Wandervilde y don Fernando Contreras y Pérez de Herrasti. Estas leciones del pasado pusieron en la obra del artista acentos graves.
